“The Final Act of Self Expression”

My favorite makeup company is working with a funeral home in what some call the creepiest collaboration ever.

British cosmetics company Illamasqua has partnered with Leverton & Sons funeral home to provide full makeovers to the recently departed.  You can also pre-plan your funeral and make-up with Leverton and Sons.

The makeover will cost $725, and is subject to availability.

Even if only a few lucky stiffs get this makeup package, this is brilliant marketing.  This promotion has been picked up by the Huffington Post, and dozens of other publications.

I am a huge fan of Illamasqua.  I blogged about them previously here and here.  Sadly, they only have limited number of their products available at select Sephora stores in the US.  Hopefully the publicity from their partnership with the funeral home will result in more of their products being available here.

  1. I heard about this partnership and was shocked at the number of people who thought it was odd, creepy, and even distasteful. Personally, I would run right out and pre-book my funeral arrangements if it meant an Illamasqua artist would be responsible for my forever face. (I’m one of those people who shakes her head in dismay at funerals because the dead look so…dead. Most funeral directors do the makeup themselves and honestly? I feel like they need serious help.)

Considering the brand’s identity, this isn’t too strange either. I think if someone like Estee Lauder or Lancome offered something like this, I’d be a little confused, but Illamasqua has always pushed the envelope when it comes to daring, dramatic makeup for “your alter ego.” I say well done, Illamasqua!
