“We have a natural right to make use of our pens as of our tongues, at our peril, risk and hazard.” –Voltaire

I try to run a good blog. I write about things that are interesting to me.  Sometimes, I write about legal issues.  Sometimes, I post pictures of my nails.  No matter how ridiculous or sublime, I have always felt free to state my opinion on any topic.  Until now.

Recently, my blog came under attack. I am luckier than most bloggers though.  I have great counsel representing me — Marc J. Randazza.  No one writes better than Marc J. Randazza, so I’m not going to try.  If you want to know what has been going on, just read this letter.

  1. Oh, that is excellent!

Let me clarify: What has taken place in regards to you is reprehensible. Aside from the abject idiocy of Lassoff, the attempt to do anything actionable against a free speech expression is beyond comprehension. Lassoff is the sort of person I could see dancing in the streets after successfully ushering in 1984, if you know what I mean.

With that said, Marc does an amazing job with this letter. Tempering the stone cold truth of iron clad legal precedent with a dry, and at times sarcastic, humor made this letter an absolute joy to read.

Very happy to see that you are well defended, Siouxsie, and I hope you are able to nail this bastard for his actions.

In the meantime, take care, and keep up the good work. We, your loyal readers, enjoy and look forward to every post!

    Signed,

    The Renegade

  2. So someone got offended by your opinion about a case and tried to delete your post about it. It’s interesting that the offended person should be well-versed about the law but tried anyway.
I loved this one in the letter: “and have exposed yourself to cause of action for damages and attorneys’ fees.” 🙂
I think your posts about law cases are very interesting and give me a little insight in how it works in this field.

  3. Hang in there. In the immortal words of Chuck D, “our freedom of speech is freedom or death.”

  4. Free Siouxsie!

  5. Great letter (and I reserve the right to borrow from it in defense of my clients :-).

  6. As a Pennsylvania lawyer, let me say this – Marc is absolutely on point. BOOM!

And Lassoff, you’re a total yambag.

  7. Please link to the original post in question. Is it the Nov. 2010 post about the case being dismissed?

  8. Go siouxsie! And mark.

  9. Crazies are everywhere; sorry you had to encounter one (and the lawyer). Is a very sad day against democracy and the Constitution of the US when we cannot speak our opinion freely. I hope you counter-sue and win.
